Course Outline

   
Aims:

  • To give participants an introduction to a theoretical context in which to understand 'at risk young people'.
  • To explore good practice in relating to young people at risk.
  • To develop skills in managing behaviour and encouraging change.
   
Objectives:

Participants will have opportunities to:

  • demonstrate an understanding of the concept of 'at risk' young people
  • have a greater awareness of appropriate codes of conduct when working with young people
  • agree some basic principles in the field of child protection
  • gain an understanding of relevant theories
  • be introduced to a toolkit of skills that are helpful in encouraging change
  • develop a greater professional competence in building effective relationships
