Course overview:

Vicarious resilience is the concept that, with support and encouragement, we can be positively impacted by the emotionally challenging work we do supporting people, and gain a sense of strong satisfaction and reward.

Explore the dynamics and challenges of your role; learn the signs and symptoms of stress, burnout and vicarious trauma; identify how to have helpful wellbeing conversations with colleagues, getting the most from the support available; and build a personal and professional took kit to build individual resilience.

 

Aim(s):

To explore both professional and personal wellbeing strategies that help prevent burnout and encourage resilience and wellbeing for all.

 

Objectives:

By the end of the course participants will have had opportunities to:

  • Explore the dynamics and challenges of working in emotionally demanding roles
  • Learn the signs and symptoms of stress, burnout and vicarious trauma, identifying strategies to have helpful wellbeing conversations with colleagues
  • Understand the role of the supervisee in getting the most from support available
  • Consider personal nurture, using the 5 ways to wellbeing to build individual resilience
  • Review their own personal and professional resilience took kit, reflecting on what is gained personally and professionally in the work they do

Sal Ball

Sal Ball is a mental health practitioner with approaching 30 years’ experience of developing and delivering mental health projects and support groups in the voluntary sector.  She has built an expertise in training and developing good practice for volunteers, frontline staff and specialist mental health professionals in supporting individuals in distress, both remotely and in person.

 

Her areas of specific interest are around supporting those in emotionally demanding roles, including peer-led and grassroots projects, to gain resilience, confidence, and satisfaction from the challenging work they undertake. She has worked extensively in the fields of peer support, trauma, personality disorder, and self-harm.  

 

She is currently developing these skills and interests further working as a Nature Connector and Forest Therapy Practitioner.
