Training for trainers: Transferring training to practice

‘I completed the ‘Train the Trainer’ course in June 2024, having just taken up a post as Psych Therapies Trainer. Whilst I had experience running sessions and had completed the online FutureLearn course ‘Train the Healthcare Trainer’, I was eager to attend further training to ensure any content I designed was as engaging as possible.

The course was 2.5 days, with 2 days in person and the half day set aside to discuss online training. Jo is an engaging trainer, mixing content and research with group activities to give us time to discuss and practice our ideas. She took account of our personal experience and goals, adapting the content over the 3 sessions to meet the needs of the group.

As part of the course we also received a booklet which we referred to and filled in over the days. This is something I’ve referred back to many times when designing sessions.

As a result of attending, I can proudly say my sessions broadly get very good feedback. I have worked hard on my content and have since gone on to complete another module on Teaching and Training as part of my doctoral studies, but I commend a lot of my ‘success’ to the Training for trainers course.

Many people in the Trust are tasked with delivering training when they may not have had any formal guidance in this area. Some may have developed skills organically but wish to add to them. Others may want to move into a teaching role but feel they lack the skills to do this. For any or similar situations, I highly suggest this course.’
