Controlled drinking programme

Course overview:

For working with clients who are experiencing social complications from their drinking rather than physical dependence, this course offers participants a complete skills set from assessment to completion in a structured drinking treatment programme supported by considerable clinical evidence.

Learn how to assess for suitability for controlled drinking, set clear drinking goals and offer a wide range of moderation skills to support clients to stay within the optimal window of alcohol consumption. Additional skills are taught to address typical reasons for over-drinking alongside more specialised interventions for complex overdrinking.

Aim(s):

To develop understanding and skills to assist clients with alcohol related problems to achieve moderate drinking.

Objectives:

By the end of the course participants will have had opportunities to:

  • Assess client suitability for controlled drinking
  • Establish drinking goals and a range of moderation skills
  • Review and respond to the triggers to over-drinking situations
  • Provide more in-depth support where underlying problems influence over-drinking
  • Evaluate client progress and review viability of controlled drinking goals

What people say

"Loads of great techniques to support clients. The BAC tables will be a useful guide for planning controlled drinking. Phil delivered the content beautifully! Such an interesting and important topic. I'm super excited to use these interventions with the relevant people and I think they will appreciate it."

Course participant, June 2024

"I found everything extremely useful. I learned a great deal about many subjects not just controlled drinking. Excellent trainer, very knowledgeable. Very good course - probably the best one I've done."

Course participant, April 2024

"Phil delivers training at a really nice pace. The case studies help to think about how you'll use the skills in practice. I find his diagrams helpful and analogies useful. Phil always explains why you should use a tool, which helps to understand the mechanics behind it and who it would be useful for."

Course participant, February 2024

"Filled with lots of information, ways of thinking and analogies that helped to understand alcohol and improve our knowledge to support our clients. I found everything relevant and helpful and it was explained perfectly. Two days well spent."
